Why
Quit Smoking?
Smoking Causes Respiratory Diseases
A healthy human body normally keeps dangerous viruses and
bacteria out by clearing your nose with mucus. If you
smoke this takes almost twice as long as nonsmokers.
Smoking has proven to weaken the immune system leaving your body
at risk and lengthening the times it takes to fight off viruses
and bacteria.
Respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and pneumonia are caused
by viral or bacterial infections. If you smoke you are
more likely to contract upper and lower respiratory tract
infections.
Healthy bodies normally fight destructive enzymes with defensive
enzymes. Smoking has an effect on antioxidants and
defensive enzymes rendering them less effective. Over
time, redness and swelling occurs causing scarring and
ultimately destroying your lungs causing COPD.
Smoking in pregnant women hinders lung development among unborn
babies. Children and teens who smoke develop breathing
problems and are less physically fit. At any age, smoking
cigarettes damages your lungs. The more cigarettes you
smoke, the faster this happens. By quitting smoking your
lungs can gradually heal and return to normal.
Quit smoking to reduce your chances of
developing respiratory diseases!
