Psychological Effects of Smoking - Are You Brainwashed to Enjoy
Smoking?
As an
ex-smoker I really never thought about whether or not I was
enjoying the cigarette I was having. Typically, I would be
thinking about my current situation or a problem I was having.
Smoking was just a natural thing to do while running things
through my head trying to come up with the answer. When I
finally made the decision I wanted to quit smoking I had to
tackle several beliefs about smoking. The psychological effects
of smoking had me convinced that I needed to smoke just to cope
with everyday occurrences.
Over the many
years I smoked I had brainwashed myself into believing that I
needed a cigarette. If I were to take an honest look at other
people in society I would notice that the majority get through
life just fine without smoking. When I smoked I tended to hang
out with other smokers. Whether it is at work on break, lunch,
or going to a local club. To me it seemed like a lot of people
smoked. But as I took a better look around I found that to be
just the opposite.
Not only did
I brainwashed myself into believing I needed a cigarette but
also that I enjoyed smoking. Before I quit smoking I made an
honest attempt to focus on the smoke I was having at the time.
I came to realize that it was not that pleasurable. It hurt my
lungs, left a bad taste in my mouth, and made me cough. By
focusing on the cigarette itself rather than the things in my
life I actually discovered that I did not enjoy smoking at all.
The cigarette itself did not offer me any pleasure.
The
psychological effects of smoking are very powerful. Being able
to overcome the bondage of smoking and changing your mindset
about smoking is critical in kicking the habit for good. Peter
Howell developed a quit smoking program called, “EasyQuit
System” that specifically addresses the psychological effects of
smoking. I have found that most of the quit smoking products on
the market focus on the physical withdrawal symptoms when
quitting smoking. I tried them and they didn’t work, at least
in the long run. I always went back to smoking.
It wasn’t
until I understood the psychological effects of smoking and how
to overcome them that I was really able to quit smoking and have
the confidence that I would remain smoke free.
If you are serious about quitting smoking and want to stay quit I recommend Peter Howell’s “EasyQuit System” which helps people overcome the psychological effects of smoking.
